Vehicle dechroming
Make a statement without saying a word
Dechroming (chrome delete) overview
A chrome delete (a.k.a. dechrome or blackout package) provides an air of sleek sophistication whereby we seamlessly and intricately wrap all of the chrome trim on your vehicle (typically in matte of gloss black). We’ll deliver a modern, stealthy appearance that’s guaranteed to turns heads on the road, meaning you can make a statement about who you are without saying a word.
We can dechrome:
- Window trims
- Grilles
- All chrome trimmings around the vehicle
- Most badges and emblems
Please note that there are some small surfaces that we don’t wrap (e.g. lettering). However, these items can be sprayed or bought and installed to achieve the desired effect – We’re here to create the exact look you desire.

FAQs
How long does a dechrome last?
This depends on several factors including the skill of the installer and the materials used. As you’d expect, we ONLY use the very best materials and we also have over a decade of experience in car wrapping and chrome deletes. As a general rule of thumb, a well done chrome delete should last at least 5 years and quite probably longer if it’s well cared for by the vehicle’s owner.
Is the dechroming process reversible?
Yes. Unlike a paint job, our dechroming service isn’t permanent and is fully reversible. This gives you full flexibility to return to the original chrome any time you wish.
How long does it take?
At FRSH Customs, we always aim for a quick turnaround as we understand that you don’t want to be without your vehicle for days on end. When you decide to book, we’ll give you a clear timeframe of how long your car will be with us so that you’ll know exactly when it can be delivered/collected. The time it takes is largely dependent on the level of dechroming you want done as well as the complexity. As a rough guide, most chrome deletes can be completed in one working day.
Can I choose exactly which specific parts I want dechromed?
Of course. Our chrome delete packges are designed with flexibilty in mind so you can choose as much or as little as you want. In other words, we’ll only work on the parts you tell us to. We can also include dechroming as an additional option if you’re already getting your car wrapped with us.
What materials do you offer?
Similar to a wrap, we’ll give you a wide range of options to choose from, including matte or gloss finishes. We also offer speciality materials such as carbon fibre.
What are the most common areas that get dechromed?
In general, most of the work we do consists of dechroming bumpers, grilles, badges, emblems, window/door trims, door handles, vents, spoilers and caps. There are some parts that cannot be wrapped but these can be sprayed instead to achieve the desired effect.
How much does a chrome delete cost?
This is tricky to answer with an exact price because it completely depends on how much of the chrome we’re covering, the complexity of the job along with the make and model of the vehicle. For example, a large, complex front grille can take a lot longer to cover than many other parts of a car. If you tell us what look you want and the type of car you have, we’ll be able to give you an accurate, fixed price; it’ll probably be less than you think.
What is a car dechrome?
Vehicle dechroming is also often referred to as a “chrome delete”. In short, it’s a customisation process where the chrome parts of a vehicle e.g. trims, grilles etc.) are covered with a different type of material, i.e. the same type of vinyl that’s used in a vehicle wrap, to give the vehicle a sleeker, more modern appearance. The process typically involves covering chrome accents such as window trim, door handles, side mirrors, grille surrounds and other exterior chrome elements.
As well as intricate vinyl wrapping, parts of a full car dechrome (or de-chrome) can be done by spraying or replacing certain parts to achieve the perfect result, especially for the small lettering used to depict the make and/or model of the car. In some instances, the chrome accents can even be replaced entirely with alternative materials like matte black or body colour-coded finishes.
From an aesthetic point of view, a de-chrome gives your car a much sleeker, sophisticated appearance by helping to unify its overall appearance. So, if you’re looking for a subtle yet stylish way to personalise your car or van then dechroming could be the perfect, cost-effective solution for you.
What are the benefits of car dechroming?
There’s no doubt that a car dechrome gives the vehicle a more sleek appearance: This contemporary, streamlined look helps to modernise the overall appearance with a minimalistic yet stealthy aesthetic solution.
If owning something that’s truly personalised appeals to you, then a dechrome is a great choice; a full chrome delete will allow you to personalise your vehicle according to your own individual taste and style preferences. If you opt for a finish such as matte black or coloured-coded trim, you can create a unique look that sets your vehicle apart from all others on the road.
Financial plus points
It’s not all about the aesthetics either – A full dechrome can also offer tangible financial benefits too. For example, chrome trim can be prone to scratching, corrosion and water spots. Not only can this nibble away at the value of your car, it’ll also require regular maintenance if you want to keep on top of things. Dechroming eliminates the need for additional care and maintenance in these areas, whichb also making it easier to keep your car looking clean and in great shape.
Adding resale value
When it’s time to sell, a car that’s already had a chrome delete can be appealing to potential buyers who prefer a customised appearance. A professional dechroming job can also make your vehicle stand out from the rest, which can be beneficial when it comes to getting the best possible price.
Customisation flexibility
A car dechrome can also provide greater flexibility if you’re the kind of person who likes to experiment with different colours, finishes and textures. For example, if it’s not a matte black or carbon fibre finish you’re after, then choosing a specific colour to uniquely colour code the vehicle could be the perfect option for you. And, what’s more, if you get bored with it or decide you no longer like it, it’s easy and relatively inexpensive to change.
In summary, a professional vehicle dechrome gives you a great way to refresh and enhance the appearance of your vehicle whilst expressing your own unique individuality.
